As the fashion week season quickly approaches, we must reflect on some of our favorite looks from the previous year. Fashion Week 2023 was characterized by a resurgence of past iconic looks, testing new trends, out-of-the-box styling, & often upstaging the runway looks.
Julia Fox: Timeless or Tacky?
Julia Fox can always be expected to make a statement, and it was no surprise that, once again, she did just that as she arrived at the Pandora Fashion Week event in NoHo. This ensemble received mixed reviews from viewers, but I will always applaud anyone taking a risk in fashion.
In 2024, we hope to see her stepping out in more boundary-pushing looks, showcasing small designers' talent.
Front Row Flaunters
Talk about stealing the show! Laverne Cox, Quinta Brunson, and Sarah Hyland stun the front row at Christian Siriano’s September show. Laverne sports a one-shoulder top with incredible shoulder detailing, Quinta in an incredible floral-esque garment, and Sarah in an off-the-shoulder purple gown. The three surely grabbed other viewers’ attention and may have just stolen the show.
This year, I predict less Viva Magenta, the color of the year for 2023, and can forecast a movement into soft, feminine colors, such as Peach Fuzz, the newly named color of the year for 2024.
Dynamic Duo of the Century
Winnie Harlow and Avril Lavigne show that opposites attract at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show of 2023! Avril sports a studded latex look that brings us back to the days of Girlfriend on the radio, in direct opposition to Winnie’s barely-there gold look, beautifully cascading on her figure with flair.
I think we are going to see a gothic revival on and off the runway at this year's fashion week, and I hope that Lavigne continues to stick to what she does best!
Matrix Men
Law Roach and Moses Sumney pose together at the Dion Lee show in September. Roach sports a structured shoulder trench with an interesting geometric pattern, while Sumney stuns in a corseted tank, pulling off the crop top look better than most.
I do not foresee this matrix-era fashion going away anytime soon, so hopefully, there will be more to come in 2024.
Picture Perfect Posse
Rising celebrities Molly Gordon, Ayo Edebiri, Chase Sui Wonders, and Rachel Sennott pose for a photo in the front row at Proenza Schouler’s Spring ‘24 show in September of 2023, showing that neutrals and classic silhouettes will never go out of style.
Already since September, we have seen Edebiri step out of her fashion shell, and experiment with more daring styles. I hope that she continues on this trajectory and continues to wow us.
